Jr. DEEP Overview
Modelled after our DEEP Summer Academy for high school students, Jr. DEEP is a summer day-camp program that takes students finishing grades 7 and 8 on a journey that explores some of the most interesting topics in science and engineering today. Whether your child dreams of becoming a medical doctor or the next Steve Jobs, you’re bound to find a course that interests the little scientist in your life.
What better way to learn about the principles of physics than by learning about airplanes, rocketships and helicopters? Our approach is to guide young minds through grade-specific lessons and activities that are hands-on, interactive and discovery-based—making learning both fun and memorable.
We had such a great time in summer 2008 that we can’t wait for the summer of 2009! Please check back in January 2009 for updated information about Jr. DEEP.
We are pleased to offer Jr. DEEP at 15 locations across the Greater Toronto Area, including all three University of Toronto campuses (St. George in Toronto, Mississauga and Scarborough) and 12 non-campus GTA locations.

Our Instructors
Courses are taught by enthusiastic upper-year university students and university graduates in the areas of science, math, engineering and technology. Our instructors engage campers with tons of engineering and science demonstrations, hands-on activities and design projects. Our instructor to student ratio is 1:10. That is, one instructor teaches for every 10 campers. Each Jr. DEEP course has a maximum of 25 students, ensuring that campers and instructors get plenty of time to interact. Program Structure
Jr. DEEP is structured into 8 week-long camps in July and August. Each week offers a different course in the area of science, engineering and technology. Each day of SCI-Camp runs from 9 am to 4 pm, with drop-off from 8 am to 9 am and pick-up from 4 pm to 5 pm. From 5 pm to 6 pm, we have an Aftercare Service available for an additional cost per child, per week of Jr. DEEP.
Just for Girls
One of our goals is to encourage more girls to pursue their interests in science, engineering and technology. Research demonstrates that girls often learn science and math more effectively in an all-girls environment. For this reason, we offer Girls Week for one week during Jr. DEEP at all U of T campus locations. During Girls Week, we offer special presentations, activities and guest speakers that promote self-confidence and encourage interest in science and engineering.
